Bilbao Airport (BIO) is located just 12 kilometers (7 miles) north of Bilbao city. A new airport terminal was opened in 2000, expanding the capacity of the former facility, and now serving around 4,5 million passengers a year. Bilbao airport is one of the fastest growing airports in Spain and a key tourism and commercial hub for the Spanish Basque Region and the rest of the north of the country.

Bilbao Airport has convenient links to main cities in the UK, Ireland and the rest of Europe, as well as plenty of flights to destinations within Spain and to the Canary Islands. Many major European airlines fly to Bilbao, as well as a number of low cost airlines.

To get down town from the airport, take Bizkaibus from the arrivals sidewalk, it leaves every half hour, and goes to Bilbao bus terminal, stopping at Plaza Moyua on the way. There are also taxi services from the airport.
